Is photobiomodulation better with red, green, blue or white light?

Image
We have already seen the healing power of red light . Let's review what it can do. According to the latest research, red light passes through the skin into the tissues, even through the bones. It acts through nitric oxide (NO), probably by producing NO from nitrites by the enzyme CcO, which limits oxidation on the fourth mitochondrial complex CcO. This leads to a better distribution of oxygen throughout the tissue, resting oxidation improves, i.e. obtaining energy from food in the most efficient way through oxidative phosphorylation. But it's not a cure-all. This is because oxidation will not increase under load. Nitric oxide conserves oxygen and promotes the fermentation of glucose to lactate. Thus, energy in the form of ATP molecules is increased, but their origin is largely from glycolysis, not from oxidative phosphorylation. Let's try to find an even better solution, for example, we can look at what other colors of light or combinations of several colors do. Different w...

Nitric oxide, tissue oxygenation and photobiomodulation, how are they related?

Image
It is interesting how diverse the view of nitric oxide (NO) can be. In the first post , I took information from a researcher who saw only positives. Not even a hint of a balanced view, the voice of a salesman of NO-generating supplements. This view is given by focusing on only one function of NO, namely vasodilation. Although this is an important function, it is not the only one that NO performs. An excess of NO is quite destructive, it permanently modifies enzymes and damages the function of, for example, the nervous system, as I have already commented on . In this post, I take information from one article that deals with the investigation of photobiomodulation. It is a relatively new field, where the tissue is irradiated either with LED radiation or a laser, or perhaps just with a broad spectrum of the sun or a light bulb. There is a lot of ambiguity here and the mechanisms of how it all happens are not known in detail at all. The positive effects are known, but the reproducibility ...

Static magnetic and electric fields fundamentally affect metabolism

Image
In previous posts, I have mentioned several times that the main cause of the current detrimental state of metabolism in many people are polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs), vegetable oils from seeds. Take a look at these posts and see how they treacherously affect our metabolism, how they prevent to use energy from the saturated fats the body makes to store energy for worse times, how toxic their breakdown products are, how they damage LDL cholesterol and how they destroy our blood vessels, how they cause chronic inflammation by preventing the resolution of common acute inflammations. But this post will be about something else, although I will still focus on the metabolic syndrome. We will not deal with food, but with electromagnetic fields. It's a pretty hot topic these days, in a world full of GSM networks, WiFi routers, 5G networks, WiGig connections and everything mobile. But I will not discuss that today. I will not examine how much energy does not harm yet and how much already. W...

Torpor, the composition of fats alias how to talk to one's own body

Image
What is a torpor? It i s a state of vital signs that occurs in certain animals. It can take hours, days or weeks. It reduces metabolism, lowers body temperature, and builds up and saves fat stores. You may be wondering why to deal with this phenomenon when one does not fall into such a state. Really? Have you ever heard the advice that if you want to lose weight, you should eat less and move more? You need to expend more energy than you eat, don't you? In principle, yes, but evaluating the value of the energy emitted is not as easy as it seems at first glance. Even the usable energy intake is quite uncertain and does not equal the tabular energy value of food. It depends on how the food is processed by your metabolism. Only a small part of the food is immediately "burned", most of the energy will be stored in stock for worse times. You probably already know that fats and sugars are stored differently. Your body has a memory of your habits, it constantly adapts and assumes...

Is a pulsed magnetic field (PEMF) a solution to benign prostatic hyperplasia?

Image
It was before Christmas. Grandpa suddenly started having trouble urinating. Nothing extraordinary at his age, but you know, just a pandemic everywhere, so he didn't want to go anywhere with it. He tried some teas, which temporarily helped, but the problems remained. So I started looking for some scientific studies that would suggest a solution. And since I was already interested in a pulsed magnetic field few years ago to treat, for example, badly growing fractures, the artificial intelligence of the search engine also offered me a study comparing classical drug treatment with experimental pulsed magnetic field treatment. And wonder of the world, all three studies I found showed statistically significant efficacy (i.e., the results are not random). In addition, long-term follow-up has been shown to improve for several months after therapy, in contrast to drugs that still need to be taken. What exactly is a pulsed magnetic field? From the name, it is clear that it will be short puls...
